Personal Statement
My name is Erica Skelton. I’m a Senior at Pleasant Hill High School in Pleasant Hill Oregon. I would love to further my education while also, being a part of a great softball program.
I have wanted to play college softball since the age of 7. I don't go to practice just for something to do, but to do something. I have worked very hard to get where I am at now. I will continue this until I achieve that dream. I go to practice early and stay late during season because I realize it takes more than just the designated practice time to be successful. It is my choice to practice on my own. I’m constantly striving to improve. I also attend softball camps in the off season. I play ASA in the summertime for the BILLIES and have been a pick up player on other ASA teams. As you can see I’m very motivated when it comes to softball.
At Pleasant Hill High School, we are 3 time Mountain Valley League champions. We finished ranked third in the state my sophomore year and also went to state semi-finals my Junior year. I started as a utility player on varsity my freshman year. I played right field, second base, and pitched. I also pitched every JV game but one. Our JV team went undefeated when I pitched. Our win/loss record was 16-1. As a sophomore, I pitched and played second base on varsity. I was voted First Team All‐League Pitcher for the Mountain Valley Conference. Last year, as a Junior, I pitched and played 2nd base. I was voted by a unanimous vote All-League First team Pitcher for the Mountain Valley Conference and Honorable Mention All- State Pitcher. I value being part of a strong team. I will do what's best for the team. I am willing to play any position needed to make our team even stronger. I want to see our team succeed.
Along with a normal varsity practice schedule I have been working with a pitching coach to master mechanics, improve speed, control, and spin. My drop ball is my best pitch, but I also have great command of a knuckleball and can throw it for a strike on a full count. I have great control of my fastball as well. My pitching coach has instilled in me that it is better to have three great pitches that spin tight then five average ones. I also work with an Olympic weight lifting coach three days per week.
Grades are important to me. I work very hard. I have learned to balance my academics while starting on the varsity softball and varsity soccer teams. Last semester, my grade point average was 3.83 in Advanced Placement classes. Likewise, I will enter college with transfer credits. So far I have 19 transfer credits; 3 credit in Practicum 1- LCC Lab School, 13 in Math and 3 in Survey of Health Professions- Occupations. I’m also, a member of the National Honor Society, Cupcakes for a Cause and a Blood Drive Coordinator.
Thank you for taking your time to read my profile, I greatly appreciate it and would love to hear about your program.
