Personal Statement
My name is Nicki Mihalik and I currently attend Richland High School in Johnstown, PA. At the age of 10 I began playing travel softball, and have loved the game ever since. I am a pitcher and outfielder, and will graduate in 2013. Currently I play for the Nitro 18UA. I have always worked to be a complete player, giving it my best on the mound, in the outfield, and at the plate. While playing with my travel club in 2009, I was selected into the USSSA World Series All-Tournament Team. Throughout my travel career, I have received 19 MVP awards from PONY and ASA tournaments. I have been the starting pitcher for my high school team my freshman, sophomore, and junior year. My freshman year I had 153 strikeouts, as we were conference champions, and reached the district semi finals for only the third time in school history. My junior year I batted .660 with 4 homeruns and 1 grand slam. So far in my high school career, I have 372 strikeouts in 231 innings pitched. In 2011, my first year of 18U travel ball, I had an undefeated record with the lowest ERA on my team at 1.02.
I am always working to make myself a better player and feel that there is always room for improvement. Some of my goals as a pitcher are to reach a consistent 60 mph speed, and to have movements of 2 planes on every pitch. With a strong passion for the game, I feel that I bring energy to the field, and am always cheering for my teammates. I have a team first mentality, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to help my team..
As I am searching for colleges, I am looking at schools of any size and any location. Academics come first, so I would like to attend a college with strong academics that could challenge me and provide me with a foundation for a career. My major is undecided, however I am strongly considering a major in biology or physics/astronomy. Athletically, I would like to be part of a hardworking and positive team.
