Personal Statement
My name is Kaya Sprankle and I am a catcher/center fielder/utility player from Altoona, Pennsylvania. I graduate in 2026 and play for Altoona Area High School and on the Central PA Wolfpack travel team. Softball has been a big part of my life, and it has made me into the person I am today. It has taught me the importance of hard work, dedication and being mentally tough. I am a team captain of my travel team and was a captain both years of junior high. As a leader I think it’s important to be a positive role model for my teammates both on the field and in the dugout.
One of my biggest strengths is my knowledge of the game and understanding of game strategy. I give 110% on the field and strive to leave every game with a dirty uniform. This effort has earned me multiple MVP awards throughout my years playing softball. This year as a Freshman I received the season MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards for my high school’s Varsity Team. I keep my skills strong in the offseason by practicing position specific drills, hitting lessons, speed work and strength/agility training.
Good grades are important to me because it reflects the ability to work hard. I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA every year since starting school and plan to continue this pattern throughout my high school career. I am enrolled in honors classes, which help challenge me academically and teach me to have good study habits and stay organized. I am currently a member of the National Junior Honor Society and plan to be inducted into the National Honor Society once I am grade level eligible.
I believe my greatest strengths are my intelligence, speed, agility, and knowledge of the game. I am a coachable, team player with a positive attitude who will represent your team and university well in all aspects. I am looking for a college that will support me academically as well as athletically. I want to play for a school where my skills can be utilized early in my college career versus a school where it may take a couple of years to get on the field. I don’t want to just be part of a team, I want to be part of a family.
