Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Jonalyn Wharry and I am a junior catcher for the New Castle Red Hurricane Softball team located in New Castle, Pennsylvania. I also play for ROC Elite Fastpitch, headquartered in Fredonia, Pennsylvania. I have been playing softball for 11 years and have been catching for about 6 years. In October of 2019, I was invited by Leah Amico, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, to play with America's Team in Australia in 2021. We will be playing six games in Sydney and Brisbane while also touring the wonderful cities.
However, more important than softball is academics. I am a Honor Student at New Castle High School and I have been in the Gifted Education Program since 2010. I have been on the High Honor Roll since 2014 and was recently inducted in National Honor Society. I maintained a 4.19 GPA freshman year, a 4.3 GPA sophomore year, and I am currently maintaining a 4.78 GPA junior year.
Outside of academics and athletics, I participate in an array of extracurricular activities. I am Assistant Stage Manager for our high school musical, I am a member of my high school's Forensics Club, I am a baker, and I participate in marching, concert, jazz, and All-Star bands. My junior year, I was chosen for Drum Major for my high school's marching band. Additionally, I was elected as a class representative for my Junior Class.
In college, I plan on majoring in Biology or Exercise Science to become a physical therapist or an orthopedic physician's assistant.
