My Name is Grace Swigart, and I am a senior at Upper Saint Clair High School. I am a member of NHS and participate in our schools MYP program. In both the MYP program and in NHS, members continuously participate in community service and make sure the school has a healthy learning environment. I have managed to keep good grades throughout high school and be a captain of the USC varsity softball team. What makes me different than the average recruit is the obstacles I have overcome in my softball career. When I was 12 years old I had my first setback when I fractured my arm while throwing a softball. This injury took almost a year to fully recover from. After several successful softball seasons and numerous accolades, I tore my ACL in a non-softball related accident between my sophomore and junior year. Unfortunately, this was in the middle of my summer travel ball season and at the same time as I was getting recruited and attending camps. The positive side of this injury is that I have recovered completely and the strength I have gained from my rehabilitation has made me a better player and person.
