My name is Jazmyne Roberts and I am looking forward to playing softball in college. My goals for the rest of my school career are to graduate with honors and to major in Nursing, specializing in Pediatrics. I feel I am an excellent candidate for any team because I am a hard worker, I listen well and I have a great of passion for softball. I am and have always been a team player. I am a quick learner and eager to learn all I can about the sport I am participating in.
I am different from the others because I am a very outgoing person that's always smiling, a proven leader, and bring life to any team. I am currently in three sports, softball, basketball and track. I try my hardest to get straight A's in school and I currently hold a 3.31 gpa. On my HS softball team I was on the varsity team last year. Unfortunately I missed last track season due to an ankle injury. This year I am on the varsity team participating in sprinting events. This year I was also on the JV and Varsity basketball team.
I started playing ball at the age of 5 (T-Ball for two years); then one year of coach pitch. From there I moved to ASA softball and haven't turned back. I started playing HS ball when I was in 8th grade. I played for Stevens HS as my school (Douglas) did not have a team yet. I earned the starting position at 3rd base on the Stevens sophomore team. I ended that season batting .600. I also pitched 3 games. My Freshmen year I was again the starting 3rd baseman and near the end of the season I moved to the JV team starting at 3rd.
My sophomore year my school (Douglas) started their own team. I started at 3rd base and also did some pitching. It was a 20 game season including playoffs. At the end of the season I was received five (5) awards. I received the awards of 'Season Leader' in three (3) categories; (1) Highest Batting Avg=.511. (2) Most hits = 23. (3) Most RBI's = 23. (4) I also received Defensive Player of the Year from my team. (5) At the State Tournament I received "All-State" honors.
I don't want anyone to think it's all about sports however I do want to go as far as I can with the abilities I have and the abilities I will gain in a college atmosphere. Just thinking about college sports excites me.The coaching level alone is hard to fathom let alone the competition I would face as a collegiate player.
However I do understand it will end one day. I want to be a nurse because I have always wanted to help people.
I was elected Class President my Freshmen and Sophomore year and was recently elected Class President for my upcoming Junior year in HS. I have looked into other clubs at school but they all have so far corresponded with sports and my practices and none have worked out so far.
This year softball has not been without it's trials. After 3 canceled tournaments and losing 5 girls on the team I've been with for two seasons, folded on 8 Jun 14. It was a very sad and also troubling time.
I got the call the next day and I am now playing for the U-16 and the U-18 'Wild Fastpitch' teams.
