My name is Abigail Popken, I’m 16 years old, and I am a junior at Central High School in Rapid City, South Dakota. I play for the U16 Marauders here in Rapid City and I am planning on playing for my high school’s team as well coming up this Fall Season. The positions I play are catcher and 2nd base, and a bit of 3rd base. When I’m not catching I am at second and vice versa. Although I generally do both, this past season I was played mostly as our starting catcher. When I’m up to bat I’m very good at getting on base. For batting, I usually am in the top 5 or 6 batters in the line up and while I am often the team bunter I can hit with power too. This season I didn't do any bunting because my team used me as a key power hitter in top and bottom of the line up. I have been playing softball for what will be coming up on my 5th or 6th year and even though I haven’t been playing as long as many other girls I have proven to be very driven to be one of the best performers on my team. I am a very coachable player and I continue to work on what I need to do to better myself as a player and a person. I always have a positive attitude towards my fellow players, coaches, and towards the game itself. I think of myself as a very competitive player and I always strive to do my best athletically and academically. As of now I have a 3.8 GPA for the 2018-19 school year. I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet but I plan on taking both soon. I have taken the preACT and I scored a 28/32 on the test. After high school I plan on going to college to pursue an education in art, psychology and therapy to become an Art Therapist, Psychologist, or Therapist.
