Personal Statement
I've grown up in a small town and as a smaller player I've had to work hard to earn respect and opportunities to play for larger more competitive teams. I now play softball for the best softball program in the state, Essex High School. Over the last 15 years, we have never lost more than 4 games in a season and they have had 4 undefeated seasons. Freshman year I started on junior varsity but was brought up to varsity for the Vermont State Championship. Over the summer I worked hard and enjoyed a significant growth spurt, and in my sophomore year I earned a starting position on the varsity level. That year we went 15-2 and lost in the semifinals to the state champions.
Through softball I have learned how to manage adversity and be a better teammate and leader. I work hard every day not only to better my skills but to bring energy and a positive attitude to every part of the game. I have learned to recognize setbacks as a chance for growth. Softball has taught me how to push myself to my limits on and off the field. In college I hope to pursue a major in biotechnology, or environmental engineering. I am looking for a program that can continue to push me academically and allow me to play at the collegiate level.
