Hi y’all, my name’s Sydney (or Syd) and first off, I want to thank you so much for viewing my profile, it truly means a lot to me! In the spring of 2012, when I was 7 years old, I put on a Scrappers jersey and played my first game of softball. Over the years, almost everything has changed, but one thing that hasn’t is the excitement and passion I felt while being on the field that day. Even 7 years later, every time I step on a field deep down inside I’m still an excited 7-year-old who just loves playing the game. However, in those years I’ve realized why I truly love this game so much. I learned that it’s not about the wins and losses, hits and great plays, or errors and strikeouts, it’s so much more than that. To me, the game is about overcoming failure, making lifelong relationships, finding a way, learning important life lessons, and being bigger than myself. Softball has taught me so much, it’s taught me hitting, fielding, throwing, and running, but more importantly, it’s taught me to be selfless, gracious, thankful, give glory to God all the time, and be bigger than myself. To me being bigger than myself means that it’s not about me, it’s about the girls I’m on the field with, everyone that’s helped me get to this point, and most importantly the good Lord that has blessed me with so much. This concept is one of the most important things to me when I’m on the field. Colossians 3:2 is my favorite bible verse, it says, “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.” This is the root of my philosophy about softball, praise the lord through this amazing sport he blessed us with and don’t focus on yourself, focus on him. This has allowed me to enjoy and love the sport while learning so many lessons, including leadership, teamwork, never giving up, selflessness, hard work, toughness, and true happiness.
From a very young age, my parents instilled in my sister and me that school comes first, no matter what. This has stuck with me throguhout my life and has allowed me to be a very successful student. At the conclusion of freshman year, I have a 4.3 GPA, getting all A’s, and taking all the honors classes offered to me. During my sophomore year, I will continue to take a rigorous schedule with 2 AP classes and 5 honors classes. Additionally, I have made the honor roll every school year, I am currently in the Center for Leadership, Government, and Global Economics at Douglas S. Freeman High School, and I was in the IB program in middle school. I also participate in community service regularly and am involved in Model UN, Student Government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Republicans, Rebelettes, History Club, and SADD at my school. While I don’t know exactly what I want to major in, I am currently thinking along the lines of political science or criminal justice.
This past season, I was a starter on my high school’s varsity team. My batting average was .420, slugging .680, with an on-base percentage of .532. I also co-lead the team in RBIs (16) and home runs (1). I am a 5’9” first and third baseman power hitter. My hitting exit velocity is 75 MPH and throwing velocity is 60 MPH. I play travel ball for Virginia Glory-Cauthorne 18U. Additionally, I was recently ranked 336th in my recruiting class by extra innings softball. Once again, thank you so much for viewing my profile I looking forward to speaking to you!
