The game of softball gives me one of the best feelings in the world. I have always had fun playing softball, and, I love it more and more each day. Being able to play softball at the next level would be a dream come true. I love playing in tournaments and showcases, and, competing against the best of the best. My passion for this sport grows every time I step foot on the field. Watching Bianka Bell play her last season for the LSU Tigers, and, listening to her speak of overcoming a somewhat rough, but short, transition to college ball to end up having an awesome freshman season and ultimately becoming one of the greats in LSU’s program, encouraged me to work harder to conquer my dream. One of my biggest inspirations was one of my very first coaches, Jimmy Pike. Coach Pike taught my mom in high school, and, coached baseball for over twenty years. He was passionate about the game and taught me the game at an early age. He said there was so much more to the game than hitting the ball and running. I learned so much from him and fell in love with the game because of him and the passion he had while teaching me the game. Coach Pike passed away not too long ago. I then re-committed myself to the game and pray that he would be proud to see the player I have become today. I play the game as if he is always watching, with the same passion and love that he passed on to me.
I am known to always have a smile, and, bring laughter, along with energy and competitiveness to my team. Coach Pike would always say, ‘What are you smiling for?’ This was even after he told me I should have had that ball that I missed. My coaches describe me as very respectful, smart, and always giving 110%. Every time a volunteer is asked for during practice, I’m known to be the one to volunteer. I am also told I am very coachable. I love to try new things that I’m taught. I pick up on every little detail in instructions. Coaches love that I have a great spirit on and off the field. They think I am a great person to be around, a wonderful influence, and someone they can always count on to liven up a practice or dugout. My teammates say I am an easy person to get along with, and, that I really come in handy when someone is down, injured, or just needs a good laugh. We love the game of softball, and, should be able to enjoy it, and each other, while competing, learning and growing together.
I would like to be on a team where the coaches have great communication with the players. I wish to be coached by coaches with a passion and love for the game like Coach Pike. With this, I know I will learn so much more about the game and become such a better player. I would like to play for coaches that will push me to be my best, and, know what methods to use that will bring out the best in me. Having coaches that celebrate with me, encourage me, and discipline if needed, would be awesome. Having the support of a college that helps the team in every way they can, will be plus as well. It is important that the college, and coaches, treat players with respect. I want to be able to trust my coaches and be able to tell them if I have a problem, on, or off the field. My coaches and teammates should be like a second family, all sharing the same passion, the love of softball.
