If you cannot see my video the link is http://youtu.be/fUAcjZ3Eemw. I love the sport of softball! I wake every day thinking about it, looking forward to the completion of my daily routine so that I can focus on this sport that I love…. Seeking to hone my skills that will allow me to achieve my dreams and aspirations; becoming the best softball player to have ever played the game and to have the opportunity to play that game at the highest levels, perhaps as a member of team USA (bring back the Olympics for 2020). It is my dream that the University I choose to play for will give me that opportunity. The effort and dedication I have put forward in achieving this goal reflects who I am; a driven individual with a work ethic that results in only one outcome, success!
I have certainly applied this work ethic to my softball. My practice regimen includes working out daily either by myself or with my team, hitting more than a 1000 balls a day ensuring that my technique, mechanics and focus are optimized. It is not unusual and in fact typical for me to go to practice early just so I can get some extra hitting in. If that's not possible, I stay later to work on things I feel I didn't do so well on. Usually I am the first one there and the last to leave. I have realized numerous successes as a result of this approach including being named to the Varsity team as a freshman for my high school, starting and eventually being named to the all district team. Most recently I was selected to be 1 of 14 high school girls representing the US, playing for "Americas Team" in Italy this summer. The team is being coached by Christie Ambrosi (former Olympic Gold Medalist and All-American for UCLA..
I have applied this same work ethic to other facets of my life such as my academics and have seen similar success. I am currently carrying a 3.8GPA, numerous honor and AP courses and have recently been named to the National Society of High School Scholars.
I am the product of a “modern family”; I’m very lucky to have the support of all involved … mom, dad, step mom and step dad, and let’s not forget my younger brother. They have all instilled in me a confidence and knowledge that if I put my heart and soul into something, there is nothing that I can’t achieve. This is how I live my life, and I feel that it is important as it provides my brother with an example that will hopefully help him to achieve his dreams.
What will I do after softball? This is a great question and one that my mom asks almost daily. This is something that I have given a great deal of thought to but only recently when I began to look at the next stage of my life … college. It has become obvious that there will be a time when I can no longer play but my goal would be to remain involved in the sport, hopefully coaching, preferably at the college level but certainly at any level that would give me the opportunity to teach the game and pass on all that I have learned with respect to the game. I began coaching 10U girls this summer and it means so much to share my love of the game. If this is not possible, I would want to stay involved with sports, perhaps a career in sports psychology, sports management or kinesiology.
Softball is both a game I love and the foundation for developing me into the person I am and continue to strive to be.
