Personal Statement
My name is Victoria (Tori) Powell. I am a 2023 graduate at Park View High School in South Hill, VA….Go Dragons!! I live in Freeman, VA with my parents and my 11 year old sister Brooklyn.
Why would you consider adding me to your roster? Simply put, I KNOW that I can fill whatever role I am asked to in order to make the team better! Whether that is an everyday starter or a supporting role, I am going to COMPETE and CONTRIBUTE to the team!
I play travel softball for TopHand Storm. I started with the Storm when I was 12 and I am currently the starting shortstop for the 16U and 18U showcase team. I LOVE playing softball!! Why do I love it? Softball is a sport that no one has ever mastered, or been perfect at..so its the ultimate challenge! Learning how to play high level softball has taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to, as long as I stay focused and don’t get lost in the situations where a play, or an at bat, does not go how I wanted it to.
To be honest, when I started playing travel softball and my first travel coach said I would be his shortstop I was nervous, and an average player at best!! However, I was lucky enough to have an experienced coach (who was not a parent of a teammate) that wanted to teach me, believed in me, and gave me a chance to work through the struggles of learning a new position. The confidence and patience I received from him and my parents as I worked through that first year has made me the player I am today. They let me own my mistakes, work to figure them out, and then recognize me when I would overcome my struggles. They don't have to push me anymore, because they know I have a fire inside that drives me to my goal to play softball at the next level. They do continue to support and help me whenever needed! Confidence was my largest hurdle when I started playing softball, and I am not sure why looking back!
I ALWAYS enjoy learning new things that help myself and my team become better teammates and competitive players. I know it's a game that cannot be perfected, but I love trying to be perfect! However, I will never let my goal of perfection as an individual player get in the way of being the best teammate I can be. I understand that we all need each other to be successful. I enjoy going to battle with my friends on the weekend. I enjoy meeting new girls at camps that share my same vision and drive. And I can’t wait to bond with a team of girls at the next level, that are all living out their dreams as well!
I am at the start of my recruiting process, so I will be posting videos and updates to my profile as I play through this season. If at any time you have any suggestions of things that could help me be a better softball player and/or teammate, please reach out to me. You can email me at [email protected], find me on Twitter at @ToriP2023, or shoot me a text or call my cell 434-532-9114.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this statement! Thanks in advance for any opportunity that you may give me to compete for a position at the next level!
Sincerely,
Victoria (Tori) Powell
