Personal Statement
Hi coaches! My name is Sara Huryn, but all my friends and teammates call me Sadie. I am a junior at Issaquah High School competing on the 18U Washington Ladyhawks Gold Miller/Simpson team. I have a 4.0 GPA while taking several advanced courses including AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science Principles, AP English Language and Composition, AP European History, Pre-calculus, and Spanish 3. As a senior next year, I plan on taking several AP classes such as AP Calculus, AP US Government and Politics, AP English Literature and Composition and an introductory Sports Medicine class. In college, I intend on majoring in a health sciences/biology related field but I am also currently exploring computer science and engineering. I plan to attend a 4-year, academically selective school while also playing the sport that I love.
I am coachable, respectful, competitive, and I consistently take leadership positions in many aspects of my life. Throughout my softball career I have provided for my teammates by being a leader on the field, stepping up to challenges and performing favorably and consistently in tournaments, games, and practices. During my freshmen 2022 high school softball season, my teammates voted me recipient of the Varsity Offensive MVP Award. Additionally, as a sophomore I was selected by the 4A KingCo district coaches to be the 4A KingCo Fastpitch All-League First Team Utility.
Throughout the entire 2023 summer club season, I hit 2nd in the lineup with a .440 batting average and an .523 OBP with only 2 strikeouts in 75 at bats. Additionally, I led my team in stolen bases with 9 over the summer. Defensively, I was primarily the starting 2nd basemen. When I wasn’t starting at 2nd base, I was catching. My fielding percentage for the entire summer season was a .965 with 85 total chances. I was also nominated and selected to play in the 2023 IDT All-Star Game as the 2025 2nd baseman.
Although I dedicate much time to academics and softball, I was also selected to my school’s advanced Wind Ensemble and I participate in the IHS Marching Band. In 2022, I was selected as the 2nd alternate to state for the WMEA Solo and Ensemble for Alto Saxophone. Additionally, I have been selected as the Issaquah High School Marching Band Alto Saxophone Section Leader position for both the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 school years.
Outside of school and sports, I enjoy reading, hiking, baking, and tracking down new restaurants and boba tea cafés with my friends!
I believe that my varied interests and strengths will be a great asset to your school, and I look forward to learning more about your program!
