Personal Statement
Hi! My name is Taylor Gebhart, I’m a Senior at Cheyenne Central High School. I’m in my 11th year of playing softball and 8th year playing competitively, 7 years with the Cheyenne Extreme and in my 1st year with WYCO softball. I am a shortstop, but can play all over the field including in the circle. I love being a utility player, where I can step into any team and play where needed. In the off season and during the season I work with a hitting coach and a pitching coach. I spend time each week in the weight room working on improving my strength, agility skills, and fitness. I'm most proud of the two State Championships that my team has won. This past season I pitched the semi final and championship games for my team. These two games were a test of my mental toughness as well as my physical ability. I also played in the first Wyoming State Championship Tournament with my hpteam at Central. Overall we came in second, I pitched in the Semi final and championship games.
The other place I spend a lot of time is in the pool. I swim 4-6 times a week for 8-9 months out of the year. I swim to keep in shape and to build strength. I compete with my high school team and a club team. So far my swim career has consisted of four trips to the State Championships, including a 5th place finish in my Junior season. It was a tough decision between softball and swimming but overall, I decided to pursue continuing my softball career through college because I love the game and my most favorite moments are with my team on and off the field.
I have learned to be a leader on a team from very early on. From getting time in on the field to planning events with the team off the field and in the off season. I am often the first one to practice sometimes even before the coaches and I’m often the last to leave. I have grown the most by encouraging my teammates to be the best they can be and to help them through the rough times and the slumps of the season. My leadership style is greatly affected by my positive attitude and leading by example. I put in a lot of time outside of set practice times to make myself a better teammate and more valuable member of my team.
My goals as a collegiate athlete are to grow and expand my knowledge and ability to play softball at a higher level. I also aspire to come away from college with a degree in either a criminology field or in elementary education. My goals all the way around are to get a higher education in the field of work that I choose and enjoy to study, but also play a sport I love and wanting to expand my athleticism in the sport.
