Personal Statement
My name is Payton Corbett and I'm a Junior at Glenwood High School, located in Smiths Station, Al... I originally was a 2 sport athlete with my school, softball and basketball, but my Sophomore year I decided I wanted to focus on my true love, Basketball. I am a hard working student in the classroom, on the court & off the court. I spend 4 days a week working with my skills coach Aubrey Reese in Auburn, Alabama and have played all summer with his AAU Travel Team SLAAM-AL. During my down time from school and basketball, I enjoy spending time with my friends, going to church & church events and helping out in my community as a volunteer.
I have been playing basketball since I was 5 years old. My father & mother are my biggest fans. My mom is my rock, she is with me at every event. My dad lives in Kentucky, but has either coached me or been there at my games & tournaments to push & motivate me to always do better and to leave it all on the court. I have a few attributes to my game, but the one I am most proud of is that I am a 100% TEAM Player. I lead my team in assists & always try to motivate and inspire my teammates to excel. Over the past 3 years I have transitioned from a point guard to a shooting guard. I have worked really hard on my 3 point game. I am consistent on my free throws shooting at an average of 80-85% a year and I am pretty aggressive with my dribble drive.
My favorite attribute outside of being a team player is my passion for defense. I am a defensive minded person who plays aggressively. I do not allow my height to deter me from being competitive. I believe that setting goals, attaining them & setting new goals is the only way a player can achieve their ultimate goal.
My parents have instilled in me the value of sportsmanship, leadership & friendship. As a leader on my school's team I try to set the tone for the underclassman & be a good steward of the game.
