Personal Statement

I have been playing basketball since I was 3 years old.  I enjoy competing in sports, and I love playing basketball.  I started out playing in leagues dominated by boys and I was still able to be successful, and along the way even earning the team MVP and playing All-Stars.  I’ve also represented my teams in 3-point competitions.

I just finished my Senior year playing basketball, softball, and quarterback for my schools flag football team.  My basketball team had a good season, I was the scoring leader, MVP, and broke school records for scoring, but we didn’t make it too deep in our CIF Tournament this year.  After our big season last year, we were moved up 5 divisions which ended up being a little too much for our team this year. though I had a good year, it just didn’t feel like a successful season without winning CIF.  After basketball, I played softball for our Varsiity team to get colleges to notice me as multiple sport athlete, but it didn’t seem to help me get noticed for scholarship offers.  I was hoping to get offered a scholarship to go away to school, but after not receiving any full ride scholarships, I have decided to stay local and go Orange Coast College.

Last year as a Junior, I earned the honor of being my team’s MVP, and I was also named as the Alll-League MVP, and later named CIF player of the year, as my team broke school scoring records my Junior year on our way to almost winning the state CIF Championship.

Out of all of the sports that I have played, I really enjoy the speed of the game of basketball.  I am truly a competitor! I am an intense competitor that thrives in game situations as I am motivated by winning and leading my team to success. I always work hard to improve my skills and knowledge of the game.   Often, I feel like my “will to win” and my basketball IQ motivates my team to exceed beyond expectations. Basketball to me is more than a game, but a way of life. All of my past sports experiences have been a driving factor in preparing me for adversity and challenges in my life, and it has taught me to work hard, overcome, and achieve at everything that I do.  I am extremely athletic, mentally tough, and ultra competitive. I would love to use basketball and it’s structure to help propel me and my educational experience in college to prepare me for my professional career.

It is my goal to find a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I realize the importance of a college education as well as the tremendous opportunity to experience athletics at the collegiate level.

My family moved a lot during my High School Years as I experienced playing basketball for 3 High Schools from Northern California to Southern California:

As a freshman starter on Junior Varsity at Clayton Valley Charter High School I was able to be a leader and motivator on and off the court.  We won the most games ever in a season, finished in first place, and won all of our tournaments .  I was able to take home tournament MVP honors in all of our tournaments, as well as the team award that year.

Furthermore, as a Sophomore at Liberty High School in Brentwood California, I had a different role as PG off the bench with my Senior dominated Varsity team.  I was brought into the game off the bench when we were losing or needed a spark.  In that role, I became a leader of my peers, and I  was able to create a style and speed in my gameplay that was mirrored in my teammates.

I feel that I bring a lot of energy and tenacity on the court with my energy, speed, and basketball anticipation. At practice, I promote teamwork and commitment with my ability to lead others and push myself to be successful. Off the court, I am continuously working on my ball skills, footwork, and conditioning as I go to the gym on a regular basis. I believe my skills in leadership, character, and work ethic make me a better teammate and will make an impact on your program. My desire to learn, and my love of the game allows me to excel as a student-athlete and is preparing me to do the same at the next level.

It’s so hard to explain how I am as a person on and off the court, but if you know me, you want me on your team because I involve everyone, I have fun, and I’m a winner!

Some of my attributes in basketball are 3 point shooting, ball handling, passing, and my anticipation skills.  I am considered a “game-changer” with my ability to react quick to situations and outpace my opponent with my overall foot speed and bullet passes.

During the 2018 Summer session of my AAU team, I was able to hit 3 jump shots to score 7 points in 9 seconds as I was able to anticipate and react to score quickly for my team.

Often, my HS team has me sit out once I get our team to a double digit lead or my personal stats might even be higher, but I just like the challenge to get my team up big early in the game with my speed and quickness.

I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the basketball court. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. My collegiate goals are to attend a 4 year college to obtain a Business Degree.
