Hello, my name is Lydia Garcia and I am sixteen years old.Although I am small, at the height of 5’3, I excel at playing the position of shooting guard. I come from a family that is very sports oriented. At the age of five my mom began placing me in different sports, trying to help me find my niche. Through all the trial and error I learned that basketball is my one true love. I feel at home from the second I step foot on the court. I love the sound of that the rubber from court shoes makes when players are fighting for the ball. The cheers from spectators and supporters encouraging the teams is like music to my ears. I made the Varsity team as a freshman, this was a whole new learning experience for me but I adapted just fine. I knew that practice I had to give my 120%, it takes dedication, time and how much you want it. I didn’t want any of my teammates to think I wasn’t dedicated due to being a freshman. I have rightfully kept my spot on Varsity and make sure to give all I have for my team. I do not let my size hinder being noticed on the court. I am vocal, possess leadership skills and support all my teammates. We are a unit and it is important to nurture that bond. I am dedicated and driven, this does not stop on the court this also applies to my education.
My academic goals are to get a 3.5 GPA or higher, get a high score on my SAT test, major in Nursing and one day become a labor and delivery nurse. In my life I have been influenced by those around me. I have a supporting family and work hard to make them and God proud. My faith has played an important role within my life as well. My coaches throughout my life, as well as my teammates, have all shaped me into the player I am today. I turn to them for support, and guidance on and off the court.
