Hi! My name is Izabella D'Eramo and I will be a junior at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana CA. during the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. I enjoy playing basketball, hanging out with friends, and watching movies with my family. I love playing basketball and I hope to continue into the collegiate level. I love Mater Dei High School and it has led me to new opportunities such as learning American Sign Language, playing both basketball and volleyball my Freshman and Sophomore years, and being able to meet people from other parts of the world. I also work 16 hours a week at a Chiropractic Clinic in Newport Beach. I greet the patients at the front desk, make appointments, confirm existing appointments, give each patient the correct paperwork, follow up phone calls, filing and rescheduling of appointments after the patient is finished. I always strive to be the best person, teammate, daughter, sister, friend, student and employee I can be in my life and I always try to attack all challenges with enthusiasm and with 110% of my energy and effort.
During my freshman year at Mater Dei, I began learning ASL, American Sign Language, and it taught me all about inclusiveness and how the language has its own culture. Sign Language has lead me to meet new people that I wouldn't normally meet and experience the hardships that most deaf people experience in their daily lives. I most recently used my skills at the annual Special Games that Mater Dei has to support all those in the area with disabilities. During that event I became the students interpreter for the day because he was deaf and in a wheel chair from cancer. I love ASL and I plan on using it as a Speech Pathologist when I'm older. I want to help people with any problems that they have and help the spread of ASL grow and become more well-known throughout the United States. Since being Deaf is a hidden disability, many people don't realize that a person could be deaf until they try to talk to that person and they don't respond.
I am a goal oriented person and I always try to push myself to a higher level in my life. When I was 7 I asked my mom to stop throwing big birthday parties and to start saving for a car that I could have on my 16th birthday. I realized that since my sister and I are two years apart but share the same birthday, my mom would spend a lot of money of birthday parties. My dream was to have a car on my 16th birthday and now I have a 2019 Mini Cooper Countryman. I have always tried to set high goals for myself and my goal for a car was one of my highest goals yet.
I originally started bowling when I was 4 years old and I started competitively bowling when I was 6. I was on a team with my younger sister Angelina and it was the first exposure to competition that I can remember. I started playing volleyball, cross country and track/field when I was in 4th grade and it opened me up to different sports. I started playing basketball in the 6th grade and thats when I started to fall in love with the sport. I enjoy the competitive drive it gives me and the way my adrenaline pumps at the end of a really close game, even if I'm watching it on Tv. During my Freshman year at Mater Dei I was on the Frosh/Soph team for basketball and I enjoyed learning the techniques that are required for high school competition. During my Sophomore year I moved up to JV after countless hours of private coaches during the summer. At the end of my JV season, I was asked to move up to the Varsity team and I am so excited to work even harder over the summer and improve myself and my team to the best of my ability.
I will be a good addition to any team because I am a team player, I'm coachable and I work hard no matter if I'm in practice, work outs, weightlifting or games. I continuously try to be the best player I can be and I am a supportive player on and off the court. I try to make opportunities for others and I love helping my teammates with my defensive abilities. My main responsibilities within games is being a heavy defense player and help my team stop the opponent from scoring and potentially winning the game. I've worked very hard on my defense abilities and I am continuously working on my offensive abilities.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to working with you in the future!
