Personal Statement
I have experienced good times and had my share of struggles, like many, but I have never let anything deter me from my goals. Growing up between two households helped to mold my mindset and it gave me an opportunity to see different approaches to navigating life. When I was younger, I would visit my dad during holiday breaks and I would play basketball with my family. It was not until I got older that I began to take the game seriously. Playing basketball has taught me how to be mentally tough and overcome adversity. I learned how to overcome negative thinking. As long as I tell myself I can keep going, I will overcome any obstacle in my way. I would describe my position on the court as a stretch wing. Given my ability to both shoot and drive, I make it difficult for defenses to manage. On the defensive end, I use my size and agility to take away the offensive player's strength.
As I enter my senior year, my academic goal is to raise my grade point average to a 4.0. I would like to graduate at the top of my class. Given my dual enrollment, I would like to complete enough college courses to be considered a Junior by the time my high school graduation comes around. While in college, my goal is to maintain a 3.5 grade point average or higher and attain my Master's degree in a social services field (Psychology, Social Work, or Criminal Justice). I desire to serve the populations that are considered underserved. Working with children in foster care is something I am interested in after I have reached my collegiate academic goals.
My uniqueness shows on a daily basis. I am the person who is always trying to see the bright side of a dark situation. I am punctual with time and I communicate very well. I try my best to inspire and motivate my teammates both on and off the court. I believe I can use my abilities to contribute to any collegiate basketball program that believes in me.
