Personal Statement
I have been playing basketball since 4th grade. At first, I played in my local park district league because my friends did, but after one season I fell in love with the game. When I first started playing I did not have a lot of basketball skills. In 6th grade, I made my middle school team as the back up point guard and watching other girls play helped me to learn the game and motivated me to work hard so that I could become a starter the next year. I trained very hard during the off season and when 7th grade tryouts came around, I was named starting point guard and held that position until Sophomore year when I was brought up to play varsity. I have been very lucky to have been a part of very successful teams (4th place in State in 8th grade and Conference Champs my Freshman year) which has taught me many lessons, such as teamwork, calmness under pressure and sportsmanship. I believe that those lessons will make me a perfect addition to any team. I feel like I will be able to contribute to a team at the next level as I am a hard worker who continues to train to further my skill set. Not only am I a successful athlete, I am also a successful student who is able to balance sports along with several Honors/AP courses. I plan to become a physical therapist after college and work with student athletes who have sustained sports related injuries. Being an athlete myself who has seen a physical therapist, I feel that I could relate to them. Playing basketball at the collegiate level has been a dream for me and I will continue to work very hard athletically and academically to achieve that goal.
