My name is Taqueia (pronounced Tah-Ky-Yah) Brown I am a 5’8 shooting guard from Chicago, IL. I am writing today to tell you show you why I should be your next shooting guard.
As an athlete I have faced many challenges in my journey, yet I have not let any of these things stand in my way. I started playing basketball in the 6th grade. Initially this put me at a disadvantage because most players start as early as 2ndand 3rd grade. Nonetheless I was a quick study and before I knew it, I had found my 1st love – basketball. Ever since I started playing, I have aspired to learn all I can with the hopes to play at the highest collegiate level and beyond.
Due To unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to play my senior year of high school. This was due to transfer rules in my state as it pertains to going from private (Providence St Mel) school to public school (Perspective Math and Science c/o 2020). Regardless, I still was afforded a recruitment opportunity at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, MI. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 put a halt on playing any collegiate basketball for the 2020-2021 season. Even, after not being able to play, I was finally blessed to play for John A Logan College in Carterville, IL for Coach Amanda Shelby. Despite these setbacks, I never got down on myself or gelt the need to give up. I continued to press forward for any opportunity.
As a player, I possess mental toughness, strong court awareness, high basketball I Q and various offensive skills. I am a student of the game, thus very coachable. I enjoy tough challenging workouts that push and test my limits. I can shoot from 3pt rage, move with and without the ball. I have good inside skills to get to the basket and finish at the rim despite lots of contact. I play solid defense, unselfish player, and always willing to do whatever to support my team whether I am on or off the court. I lead by example in the classroom as well. I take pride in how I carry myself has an individual and how I represent my team. I strive to be the best and willing to put in the work anytime of day.
I am academically going into my junior year of college (after this semester). As a business major, I have a 3.39 GPA; I was seven individuals on my current to team to possess GPA above a 3.0.
I have four years of athletic eligibility left. I am looking to transfer to a 4-year institution where I can finish the pursuit of my degree and play the game I love at a high level. I wish to play for a program with a strong foundation, committed to excellence, positive and supportive environment that develops players to their fullest potential on and off the court.
I blessed to have the opportunity to be able to pay the game I love so much. I understanding that is a blessing to be recruited to play basketball at any level. I am glad you took the time to read a little bit about me and my journey thus far. I hope that you see me as a fit for your program as your next shooting guard.
