As a young girl I was always active. Also as a little sister, I would go watch and support my old brother Lee at football and baseball games. Watching him is what gave me the sensation of wanting to play sports. When I got older and spent more time with my grandfather watching the Chicago Bulls play on TV, is when I became interested in playing the sport I love today. Basketball. I started playing when I was in sixth grade. My sixth grade year was the first year i got injured. I was on the ball playing defense on an out of bounds play, when I had went up to block the ball from coming in, as i fell down I twisted my ankle. Though I was hurt, I was determined to keep playing until the very end. I had so much fun playing that I continued playing when I hit Jr High.
My freshmen year I didn't play for my high school, but I played for a travel team. We weren't very organized and lost mostly all of our games, but what I got from that season was that as a team we needed to work with each other. We needed to be able to rely on each other and not just think of ourselves. My sophomore year at Macomb Senior High School, I decided to play for my school. We played using the system. All we cared about was keeping a fast paced game and putting up shots. Of course winning was the goal too, but I felt that playing basketball this way is not only fun, but easier to play as a team.
From playing basketball I've learned how to communicate better with others and how to rely on others even when I don't want to. Also I've learned that working harder on what you love you will have your starring moments. For example as a post player I wouldn't expect to make a 3pt shot, but I did. I wouldn't have achieved this with out my teammates, coaches, and the hard work or dedication my family and I put in.
