Personal Statement
A short history on how I started playing basketball and why it's my first love. I wanted to spend extra time with my Father and he was always outside, at the park, or YMCA shooting basketball so I decided to join him. Well with him teaching me how to shoot I grew to like it and now love it!!
I stopped gymnastics and cheer in the 8th grade to focus on basketball. It was a little discouraging at first because I was at a major disadvantage for several reasons, all the girls that I was playing with and against had been playing basketball since they were little, I had NO experience, plus being hearing impaired it was hard to figure out what to block out and what to focus on when playing. I had to rely on all my sense to get a good lay of the floor and anticipate moves and when teammates were open.
I strive to get better everyday and give myself constructive criticism. I work hard I practice at least 2 hours 5 days a week after my practices and on weekends, and I train with a trainer. I have really worked extra hard this past year because I blew out my knee the summer going into my 10 grade year and couldn't play.
I felt my world had crashed down on me, one coach told me he didn't know if i could ever be as good as I was before I got hurt. This tested me mentally and physically but my faith, support from my family and hard work brought be to the other side. I got cleared to play 1 month early by pushing myself to the limit. I will never stop working for something I love and that is basketball I will do whatever it takes to be a support and an asset to my team!!
