My first year playing basketball was for my schools 5th grade team. Having no past experience, it was surprising how quickly I caught on. I began to love basketball and I decided that it was more than worth the time and effort I was willing to put in. Although aware that I'm capable of being more of a scorer on my team, I've found that my place the past few years has been to get the ball into the post players and to make those assists. My team is very post-oriented given our talent and size in this area. I believe it's very important to understand your place and to do your very best at being what the team needs, whether it is to score 20 points a game or to simply play great defense. I'm very grateful for all of the time and effort I have put into improving my ball handling skills. This has set me apart from many other players and opens up a lot of options for me on the court. Other than this, my basketball IQ and my court awareness skills help me to be the player I am. I love diving on the floor for loose balls and leaving everything I have on the court at the end of each game. My love for basketball has motivated me to work hard and has hopefully motivated others as well.
Approaching my senior year of high school, I've put a lot of thought into my future plans. Although I'm not sure where I would like to attend or even what I aspire to be, I am positive that I would love to play college basketball. Right now it doesn't matter where I play as long as it is academically challenging for me. My senior year is here and I keep thinking to myself; "There's no way this could be the end of my basketball career." And I know it doesn't have to be.
