Personal Statement
My collegiate goals are to succeed in becoming a Medical Doctor, specializing in Pediatric Oncology while competing in basketball at the collegiate level.
I would make a good candidate for a collegiate basketball team, because I am trustworthy on and off the court. I will always give one hundred percent playing to the best of my ability and performing whatever may be asked of me. I believe being uncomfortable is how we improve. I encourage my teammates to play to the best of their ability. I believe that every player has a role, on and off the court, in and out of season. I have always put my team before myself.
The difference between myself and most other recruits is that I try to maintain myself as a person of good moral character by making sound decisions based on honoring God, myself, and those that may be affected or influenced by me. My approach to athletics is “anything worth doing is worth giving my maximum effort, always.” When I step on the court, whether it is for practice or competition, I am solely focused on what needs to be accomplished. I embrace opportunities in pressure situations. I am a firm believer that a player must earn their position. As to the matter of academics, I have always approached the process of learning as another form of challenging myself. I have always enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment of new knowledge. I believe that knowledge translates into strength.
In summary, I believe character, academics, and athletics are all woven together, each enhancing the other, each presenting different personal challenges. I challenge myself by setting my standards and goals high, thereby attaining a personal satisfaction of achievement.
Thank you for your consideration,
Alyssa
