Personal Statement
I have always loved the game of basketball since I was a little girl. I have played for eleven years, starting in second grade. In middle school, I was an average athlete; I would have never guessed I would become a varsity starter my first year in high school. I had a great season my freshman year and was ready to see what sophomore year had to offer, but I had to sit out. During travel softball, I shredded my meniscus and had to get knee surgery in October, with basketball season starting in November. It was a rough year for me, and my injury made me realize I have a more profound love for basketball than I knew. I had to bounce back for my junior season; being out meant everyone on my team had gotten ahead of me, but I did not let that discourage me. I was determined to take back the starting spot I earned my freshman year. I showed up to practice every day and went 100% all the time.
My hard work paid off; I regained my starting spot and had an excellent junior season. I gained a new confidence that I lacked freshman year, but I always strive to better myself and my teammates. My goal is not only to play basketball at a higher level but also to become successful in all aspects of life. In my opinion, talent only takes you so far. It is how you treat others and how you act on the court that sets you apart from other athletes.
