Personal Statement
I became interested in basketball at the age of eight when I was in third grade. I remember I really wanted to play, but at that time I was extremely shy. As badly as I wanted to play, I told my mom not to sign me up. She ended up signing me up anyway because she knew how badly I wanted to play. I'm so glad she did! I feel that playing basketball has helped me overcome being shy.
I have learned many things about myself through playing basketball. First, I have learned that nothing comes easy. Anytime I need to improve something with my game it takes time, hard work, and dedication. Second, I have learned that playing basketball requires sacrifice. I have played basketball at the varsity level since sixth grade and AAU since I was a freshman. I have spent many summers trying to improve my game at skills camps and playing in AAU tournaments. Finally, I have learned that I must be flexible as a player on the floor. For example, depending on the circumstance I may need to play multiple positions. You must keep an open mind and be ready for whatever comes your way.
My academic goal for high school is to keep my 4.0, continue to be in the Beta Club, and complete as many college credits as possible before graduating from high school.
