Personal Statement
I have been playing basketball since I was 4 years old, always playing an age group above. It was my family that sparked my interest and love of playing basketball. My Grandmom, dad and mom played basketball through high school. As I kept playing and meeting new friends, my love for the game grew and I wanted to play more. Basketball has taught me how to work well with others to achieve a common goal (winning) and the importance of friendship both on and off the court. My goals for college are to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine or Pre-Med and to play collegiate basketball at a competitive level. My career goal is to become a physical therapist or an orthopedic surgeon, helping athletes and others to achieve a determined performance level post-injury. Through this sport, I learned how to overcome injuries. During the 2018-2019 season, I was injured with a broken ankle and wasn’t able to play for several weeks. While I was unable to play, I saw the game from a different perspective. During this time, I transitioned from being a leader on the court to being a leader on the bench, supporting my team in any way that I could. This perspective showed me that I could make an impact and be a leader off the court by helping the team to focus on doing what was needed to win. When I am not playing basketball or training, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing field hockey and coaching girls clinic basketball. I love the game! I am very excited for what high school and the future hold for me.
