Many years ago, in second grade I played my very first recreational basketball game, little did I know it would become one of my greatest passions. When I was younger my parents threw me in summer camps to see what I was interested in and basketball always stuck out to me, and I decided to follow through with it. Fast forward and I have been playing the sport since I was 8 years old.
Basketball for me has changed my life in many ways and has taught me many lessons, how to persevere through difficult times, to hang on to those memories with your teammates, to play like it is your last game every game, and to especially have fun.
I’ve learned a lot of things about myself, that without the sport I would have never learned, like how important it is to never give in to your bad habits and to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Without the sport, I would not be the same person I am today.
Some goals of mine are to receive scholarships for my play, continuing to have fun, and be able to make my family proud. This sport has taken me places I would not have ever thought of and I want to continue to follow it and see where it takes me.
Ever since I was a little girl I grew up with male athletes as role models, like the Russell Westbrook's, the Lebron James’s, the Lionel Messi’s, and more. Now it has changed and has started to include the Sue Birds, the Serena Williams’s, the Alex Morgan’s, Breanna Stewart’s , and many more. When I was younger I was always shown male sports players, and that has changed as the years progressed. One of my main goals and one of the most important things I want to achieve in life is to show younger girls that they can do whatever they put their mind to, be who they want to be, and also be someone they can have as a role model to inspire them the same way my role models have inspired me.
