Personal Statement
Hi my name is Ashlee Talbot,
I began playing basketball at the age of 5 with a YMCA program at my school. I instantly fell in love with the game and my passion has only grown stronger over the years. Dribbling and shooting came natural to me. After a couple years with the YMCA program I was able to to play in the town recreational program, then the town travel league and then began playing AAU in the forth grade. I have been blessed to have great coaching at all the levels that I have played. My collegiate goals are to find a school that is the best fit for me academically and athletically. I am enrolled in mostly honors classes and currently have 4.1GPA. In college, I am leaning towards studying something in the the Health Science field such as athletic trainer, Occupational therapy, or in the education field to become a teacher with hopes of being a coach in the future . In addition to my academic goals, I also would like to continue my basketball career. I believe I am a good fit for any college team because I am not afraid to put in the hard work to get better as well as do what I can to help my teammates and team be successful. I have great court vision, have the ability to shoot at all areas of the court, and I am a selfless player. My freshman year on the Dracut Senior High School Varsity team I helped them make the state tournament for the first time in 4 years. My Sophomore year was a shortened season due to Covid and only played 10 game, with no play-off rounds.
This past season was the best in our schools history. We went 21-3 on the season and beat school record for most wins in a single season for both boys and girls programs(previous was 15). We made it to the Elite 8 for the first time in school history and I was the first girl in the program history to be selected for the Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic teams.
Outside of basketball, I played varsity soccer for two years and made the switch to Volleyball where I made the Varsity team, currently I am working on strength and conditioning 2-3 days a week. In my spare time I enjoy helping out with the youth programs in the town, have been a junior volunteer coach for soccer and volunteer with travel basketball programs demonstrating skills during travel try-out sessions in my town, I am a mentor for the Best Buddies program at my High School and am a Class Representative.
In spring of 2020, I also hosted Zoom basketball skills sessions to help younger players improve their game while we were isolated during the start of the pandemic. I ran two 1 hour session per week for about 10 weeks. During that time, I created t-shirts that I sold to the public, with the proceeds being donated to the Dracut food pantry.
