Personal Statement
At the age of eight I attended my first women’s basketball game, the experience sparked my love for the game. It was at that time I aspired to play at the collegiate level, so my family signed me up for AAU. When I first joined, I cannot stress how much I hated running, I would come in dead last causing my group to run more. So when I wasn’t at the gym with my team, I was running around my neighborhood block. I even joined the track team in middle school to get faster and stay in shape for basketball. My track team won back-to-back city champions! I am happy to say that from 8th grade on, I have lead my team in sprints and strive to be the first person down the court in a fast break. I am very outgoing and not afraid to be a team leader on and off the court. I strive to be one of the hardest working players for any team I am apart of and lead by example. I see the court very well, am a great passer, playmaker and have great footwork for making moves and an effective defender. I make smart plays for teammates, get rebounds, steals and block shots. I create offense for myself by out working my defender in and out of the paint. I have lots of moves to get to the rim and to my jumper. I am a confident and vocal player with a bubbly personality.
Off the court, I have been active in numerous extracurricular activities such as Student Council, National Honor Society, Girl Scouts, volleyball and track. These groups have allowed me to give back to my community and in return I’ve had unbelievable experiences. I collected and shipped 2,200 books to Sierra Leone, Africa to open a library in a small town. I have assisted for five years in preparing 300 Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless and annually clean the city community senior center. I am also proud of my achievements in raising money to travel to other countries within a travel Girl Scout group. My freshman year I traveled to Italy, France and Switzerland and the summer of my sophomore year I visited Iceland. Over the past five years I have had the opportunity to help assist my high school coach with running a summer basketball camp for under privileged kids in our community which has always been a favorite.
My college search is to locate the best academic match with the highest level of competitive play.
What drives me? I hope to inspire young girls to play basketball and to make my family proud.
