My name is Haylie Wilson (2023 graduate) and I am a 5'8 Point guard/shooting guard and it is my goal to play basketball at the collegiate level. I started playing basketball when I was in third grade. I became very involved and quickly learned to love this game, and it didn’t take me long to know I wanted to play basketball beyond high school. Very early in my basketball career, I played for my dad and his friend and they always demanded the very best of us. There was always more of an emphasis on doing things right as opposed to just trying to win games and they were tough on us. From this experience, I learned to be tough, resilient, and how to overcome obstacles. I have become dedicated to the game year-round in all aspects of basketball including; shooting, scoring, defense, passing, and the mental approach to the game. I am very focused on my goals and have worked hard to understand the game inside and out, getting me to where I am today.
In addition to basketball, I also play volleyball and softball. Both softball and basketball have been a large part of my life as I have juggled my way through playing both locally with my school classmates as well as on travel teams. Most recently I played travel basketball for MBA out of Grand Rapids as well as for United out of Kalamazoo. I play travel softball for Michiana Repetition Elite Team out of South Bend. Volleyball I only play locally for highly state ranked team. I have found being very active in three sports has forced me to learn skills in time management, how to work with different personalities and expectations, and has made me a well rounded athlete utilizing the most of my potential to develop different skills and attributes. Of course, academics are also very important to me. I want to attend a college that will challenge me academically as well as one that helps me down a path to pursue a promising career. As a school superintendent, my dad is constantly talking to me about the importance of grades and finding a school that fits my needs academically towards a fulfilling career. My two major interests at this point include something in the health/medical field or something in the engineering/architectural field. Currently I attend Bronson Community Schools (I recently moved to Bronson after being in Constantine) and will be a graduate of the class of 2023. I have a 3.88 GPA and in the top 10 in my class.
I have learned so much through both school and athletics, such as working hard, helping others, loyalty, dedication, and being mentally tough. In both school and basketball, I am highly competitive to be at the top of my class and level of skill both academically and athletically. I am not only a good academic candidate but also an athlete who is highly coachable, competitive, and a team player, that will no doubt add value to your school and your program.
