Personal Statement
I am a proud student at Galesburg-Augusta High school that will be graduating in the spring of 2019. I have been blessed with the opportunity since I was able to walk to have a basketball in my hand. When I started Kindergarten, I was playing basketball in one way or another. It started with camps through my school, our summer league in 4th-7th grade, then the school seasons. I knew I had a love for the sport when I first started. As I grew I knew I wanted to keep playing through college. Every summer since 7th grade I have gone to workouts, open gyms and extra training with my coaches so I could keep improving and to be the best player on the court that I could be.
Aside from the sport, I am very involved in my school and many extra curriculars. I am apart of Student council, College ambassadors, Interact, and I am a peer mentor. Student council is a group that focuses on spreading our G-A spirit and love to everyone. One way we like to show our spirit and love for the community is to volunteer all throughout the year, just like our Interact group. Interact is just a group that goes around and is a caring group that lends a helping hand in the community. College ambassadors is kind of like Student council but we have a different message. College ambassadors is all about informing the students at G-A about college and all the opportunities they have after High school. Lastly, like I said, I am a peer mentor. Peer mentors are like a teacher assistant in the classroom, they know the material of the class and is there at any moment to help a student. I was a peer mentor for Algebra I and for Freshman Focus.
I had a role model. She is two years older than me. I always looked up to her on and off the court. She always had this positive attitude and no matter the score she was helping people up and focusing on the game. I aspire to be like her; it is now my senior year and I have goals of being the best I can in the classroom and on the court. I want to be remembered, no one remembers the stats. No matter how hard you work, the spectators don't know. Everyone remembers that one girl that was helping the other team up on a jump ball and was giving her teammates high fives while always having a good attitude after every timeout. I aspire and am working to be that student athlete.
