Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Alyssa Rostad and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I’m finishing my junior year at Houston High School in Houston, Minnesota, a small town in the southeastern part of the state. I was first introduced to the game of basketball as a preschooler and I haven’t stopped playing yet. I really started developing a love for the game when I was in sixth grade and was moved up to the junior high team. In seventh grade, I was moved up to junior varsity and in eighth grade I was named a starter and have been starting ever since.
I currently have a 3.84 GPA and have earned academic letters all through high school. It has always been important to me to get good grades. I would like to find a college where I can continue to push myself academically and athletically. I am also on student council and I am involved in the mentoring program for the new incoming 7th graders.
I believe it takes hard work and dedication to reach your goals in life. I am always trying to improve myself. I attend speed and agility sessions twice a week and do weight workouts three times a week. I have lettered in the weightlifting program at our school and continue to exceed my goals. I try to make it to the gym daily to practice shooting and do ball handling drills.
Besides basketball, I also play volleyball and softball. I am a manager for the football team at our school and am in band. This last year, I started volunteering with both the girls and boys youth basketball programs at our elementary school. I love the idea of being a positive role model for kids just like college players are role models for me.
