Personal Statement
My name is Shelby Adkins and I currently am a full-time PSEO student at Central Lakes College. I am 17 years old and my focuses are on my education and athletics. I enjoy school, (unusual, I know) sports, working, and really anything that has relation with being active. I am a go-getter and I have many big goals and plans for myself, all which begin with playing a college sport. Ever since I was a young girl, I have always had the dream of playing the sport that I am most passionate for in college; basketball. This sport has taught me how to be hard working, have immense discipline, and to never give up. I am very quick, have good ball handling skills, and most importantly, I am coachable.
I discovered my love for basketball when I was thirteen years old and ever since then I have not been able to lose my infatuation with the game. I started my basketball career in 7th grade on the junior high team. In 8th grade I was starting JV and even sat varsity towards the end of the season. At the beginning of my ninth grade year, I was a starter on our varsity team and this continued until my junior year when I hit a little road block; I tore my ACL. Despite this rigorous injury, I had an impeccable five month recovery and was back on the court mid junior year. I believe that because of my injury I am now a stronger athlete, physically and mentally. Going through this has taught me how to be dedicated and to never take even one practice for granted. I work harder and put more time into this sport than anyone I know. I have a bubbly personality and I am a team player. I believe I have the mental and physical attributes it takes to be a college level athlete and that if I had the privilege to be apart of an athletic program, I would make every second count and work endlessly to be the best version of myself on and off that court. I would be a great addition to your team because I am friendly, diligent, but most importantly, I am a leader.
