Fiona Flynn '18 Recruiting Profile

By the end of my high school career, I would like to see my name on the 1000 point banner that hangs in our gym along with my aunt, who earned her place as the first girl in 1989. Seeing her name every time I step into the gym inspires me to work my hardest towards this goal whether it is a practice or a game.  However, I do not let the path to 1000 points influence my judgement on the court. Team success is more important to me and drives me to be a better player and teammate.  With this mindset and earning a starting position my freshman year, I gained the respect of my teammates and was voted captain my junior year.

I also compete in soccer and track at the varsity level. Throughout the years, transitioning from sport to sport I’ve learned different aspects of work ethic. From track, I’ve gained self-reliance. To work hard even when no one is looking, because everything falls on your own shoulders; whether you have the desire to push yourself. From soccer, I’ve learned the importance of relying on your teammates, attention to detail and responsibility.  Because when you’re in the eighty-fifth minute of play and you make a mistake… that could cost the game. Overall, I will look back on my high school career in pride, earning 12 varsity letters (and even earning starting positions my freshman year in two of the sports), is just a physical representation of the amount of time and effort  I put into this part of my life.
