Sports have always been a big part of my life. Soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, and more recently flag football, have all kept me busy, happy and in great physical shape since elementary school. I love the feeling of camaraderie, competition and continued development that each one provides. Over the years, there has rarely been a seven day stretch that did not include a game or a practice. Playing three sports in two days was/is not uncommon. This academic year includes my participation in high school and club soccer, high school flag football and high school and travel (regional) basketball. Choosing one of those to pursue at the next level has certainly presented a challenge for me. However, I have come to discover that I feel most at home and am most satisfied on the basketball court. I have been a varsity basketball player since my freshman year but had been a backup to my older sister/role model (who is currently a freshman C/F at Catholic University) for the past two years. With her graduating, I was named a starter this year as a junior and have made the most of the opportunity. I try to lead by example no matter the sport when it comes to perseverance, hustle and heart. I also understand the value of practice, training and supporting my teammates as we pull together to play as hard and as smart as we can in pursuit of our goals. To be sure, these behaviors will continue in college. I know that as long as I stay focused, work hard, and keep myself 'coachable', I will eventually earn the opportunity to contribute with in-game effort. I will certainly miss the variety and rotation of sports at the next level but at the same time I am so very much looking forward to focusing on just one sport and how improving myself throughout the year in that sport will help me become the best version of myself as a player, teammate and person.
