KaNahRahTens Oakes '16 Recruiting Profile

    My name is KaNahRahTens Cierra Oakes and I am a Junior at Lafayette High School in Lafayette, New York.  We live a few miles outside of Syracuse, New York.  At a young age my parents encouraged me to get involved in sports and I played softball, basketball and soccer. 
 
    I’ve played basketball since the seventh grade and started two years on the Junior Varsity team for the Lancers. This year I was privileged to be chosen as a starter for the Varsity basketball team at the center position.  Currently I am ranked 10th in rebounds in Section III girls’ basketball. I was recently named 2nd team all league for basketball.  I have also started three years for the Varsity soccer team and the last two years I have been awarded All League Honorable Mention.  As a student/athlete now and at the next level I will always give 100% to my abilities.  I will listen to my teachers, coaches and teammates and learn how to be a better student and athlete.
 
      As a student at Lafayette High School I’ve worked hard to get good grades and with the help and support of my family and teachers I am currently on the Honor Roll.  My hope is to be the first in my family to go college. It would be a dream of mine to get an athletic scholarship. 
 
      As an athlete I know losses and wins.  Our Lancers soccer team had a three year streak without winning a match, and this year we finally won two games.  That feeling was amazing.  But the best part of soccer this year wasn’t just those wins; it was having my sister as a teammate for the first time.
 
     When I graduate high school and go on to college I will work hard as a student and athlete. I will face any challenges head-on and be thankful for all that I receive and achieve in life.   And I will always remember family members, friends, teachers, coaches and everyone who helped me along the way.
