Personal Statement
As a Team Captain on my 9th grade JV basketball team, I discovered first hand what it takes to be a leader. We had a new team made up of experienced players as well as first time players and that combination created a challenging season, on and off the court. We worked hard to move from a group of girls with varying experience levels to a fluid team that was capable of winning games. These girls looked to me for guidance and leadership when morale was sometimes at its lowest, and I had to motivate and push them to be the team I knew they could be.
I learned the value of teamwork, commitment, and leadership this year without us even winning a conference trophy. I also learned that when things get hard, you have to look inside yourself to find the strength and perseverance to get through whatever adversity faces you. I've been playing basketball ever since I can remember picking up a ball, and through basketball I have grown mentally, physically, socially, and academically. I feel these qualities make me a great fit for a college basketball program looking to recruit a quality person to their team. It's my goal to attend a school that offers my field of study along with providing me the quality college basketball experience I am working so hard to realize.
