Personal Statement
Hello, My name is Destiny Tabler, and I am currently finishing my junior year at Federal Hocking High School in Stewart, Ohio. I have many goals to achieve after high school, but one of my main goals is to play basketball at the next level. I started playing basketball in the 5th grade and have loved it ever since. At that age I played mostly the 4 post position being on of the biggest and tallest girls on the team. I now mostly play the 1 and 3 position at my high school, But I play the 4 position when needed to. I am now a three year varsity player that has accomplished a lot of my goals such as making 2nd team all district and All TVC, but I have plenty goals that still need to be accomplished. I spend most of my free time in the gym working on shooting, ball handling and defensive skills that are going to make me the best player I can be. Being a team is what basketball is all about to me. Having a team with a bond like you are family is the greatest feeling ever, and I think that is what makes a basketball team great. Your teammates push you to succeed and to make yourself better not only as a player but as an individual in the real world. There are many reasons why I want to play basketball at the next level, but the main reason is my love for the game. Basketball is a year round sport for me. I play AAU in the spring, Fall ball, and participate in shoot outs with my school team during the summer to stay in shape for the upcoming season.
I not only want to succeed on the court, but also in the classroom. I currently have a 3.75 GPA and I am 12th in my class. I try to push myself by taking the hardest classes offered and working hard to keep my grades up. I have not yet taken an ACT test but I will be taking my first test in June, and I plan to take the test multiple times to get the best score I can possibly get. I am very active in my school. I am a member of the spanish club, help with most fundraisers for various reasons, work concessions for sports, and also sell 50/50 tickets.
I try to be active in community and school events. Each year I help out with Angel tree which helps get kids christmas presents that cannot afford them, and a canned food drive/fundraisers for food pantries. Also starting this year I will be going out with a group from my school to either clean-up or plants trees for people/places that are in need of help. By helping with these activities it not only makes other people's lives a little easier, but gives me a sense of satisfaction and pride for doing good things in my community.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Destiny Tabler
