Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Sierra Carey!

UPDATE:

I have recently decided to forgo playing basketball at the collegiate level as I have been accepted into the College of Engineering at the University of Cincinnati.  I plan on dedicating my time to my education as I did my education and athletics in high school.  I appreciate everyone who has viewed my profile, watched my highlight films and contacted me.  It's been a difficult decision, but it is time to concentrate on the real reason I'm going to college and that is to set me up for LIFE!

I am currently a Senior at Upper Sandusky High School where I am active in Student Council, Soccer, Track and Basketball.  I am 5' 10" and weigh 155 pounds.  I started and lettered as a Freshman, Sophomore and Junior year on the Varsity Basketball team.  I was voted team captain my Junior year and received 1st Team N10 Conference Honors, District Honorable Mention Honors, AP NW Honorable Mention Ohio Honors and the Daily Chief Union First Team Honors.  In addition, in my junior year, I was selected to play in the Shelby Rotary Underclassmen All-Star Game.

I received my 3rd year letter in Soccer my Junior year.  I was third leading scorer in goals and assists and earned 2nd team conference and honorable mention in districts.  My Sophomore year was my first year running track.  I ran the 100, 200, 400 relay and 800 relay.  I earned 2nd Team N10 Conference honors in the 400 relay.  In addition, I was selected Most Valuable Sophomore on the team.

My strongest assets are:

  • Passing and ability to see the floor to hit the open girl
  • Shooting and hit the open 3.  I led the team as a freshman in 3 pt percentage and FT's.
  • Pushing the ball up the floor on fast breaks and can pull up and hit the open 8-12' jumper.
  • Excellent knowledge of the game.

My weaknesses are:

  • I am at times, too unselfish.  I don't shoot enough, which if I did, it would draw more defenders to me and create more open shots for my teammates.

In 4th grade, I started and was leading scorer on a 5th grade travel team.  I have played every summer since.  I portray the leader position on and off the court and able to keep my teammates engaged and in the game.

I currently plan to seek a degree in Computer Engineering with a minor Mathematics in college.  Academics are as equally important in my life as my athletic endeavors.  I look forward to achieving much as a high school student and plan to carry that over to a successful and fulfilling collegiate career.  I am dedicated to family, health, fitness and God.  I am self-motivated to learn, practice and improve; spending many late nights after practice in the gym or weight room to become a better player and teammate.  I am team player and look to make others on the court better by sharing the ball when needed.  I seek a team win in lieu of an individual accomplishments and look forward to do that in college.

In my spare time I like to lift weights, run, read books and listen to music.  I have a two older sisters and a younger brother.  My mother started on the first girls basketball team from Upper Sandusky to make the Final Four at State tournaments in 1982 and my father played baseball at the University of Findlay.

I look forward to the opportunity and gift to play at the next level and help my teammates become better people on and off the court.
