Personal Statement
Through out my whole life I have loved basketball. I really started to love the game at a young age because of my grandfather played for the University of Dayton. It's always been a part of me as long as I can remember. Yet, basketball didn't come naturally easy to me because growing up I was not very good at it. In fifth and six grade I was cut from the schools basketball team. I worked hard so that in seventh grade I became a starter.
I learned this work ethic from my mom. She is the strongest person I know. She puts 110 percent in everything she does, especially her job. She will sometimes come home from work exhausted from her long days work because she helped an elderly coworker with her work. My mom is also a fighter. She was diagnosed this year with stage four breast cancer, which is located in her lung, liver, and spine. She has fought with everything she's got and is now thankfully in remission. This is why I work so hard for everything I do because there is nothing handed to you. You have to put in the effort for things to come true.
My biggest athletic accomplishment was my sophomore year me and my team went to the state tournament in Columbus. We won in the final four game by double over time right at the buzzer only by one point. Then when went to the finals we went against a school ranked 3rd in the country. We gave it our all and never gave up at one point we where down 15 points. But the ending score we only lost by four points. This showed me that if you play and work as a team then anything can happen.
My biggest academic accomplishment was being elected for home squad. Hope squad is a teen alliance group to help prevent teen suicide. This helped me so much to improve on my leadership skills and learn about mental health. Not only that I got to present in front of the whole school about mental health. This showed that you as an individual can change someones day for the better by just saying hello.
