Personal Statement

My name is Kiana Peveler.  I have just finished my junior year at Olive High School.  You could say that I have grown up in basketball as I was in the gym at my dad's basketball camp when I was two months old.  I also attended my first OSU Cowgirl basketball game at six months old and have been at every OSU game except when I have a game.

I love the game of basketball and look forward to the opportunity to play beyond high school.  Unfortunately, my team's freshman year was cut in half due to various Covid quarantines.  In February, I had just finished my second year in high school, and my game grew considerably.  That summer I was fortunate to play AAU for the first time and my basketball growth took a tremendous step forward.  I played for the Oklahoma Aces and had a remarkable summer, as I expanded my game in front of college coaches almost every weekend.  My junior year consisted of moving to a new school as my dad became the new coach at Olive High School.  We had a very good year and my game continued to expand in so many different areas.  I am currently playing in my second summer of AAU for Oklahoma Royal Legacy (this is the same organization from last year, just a different name- I am not a team jumper).  I feel so blessed as my game continues to grow as I play against tougher competition.  I have also had several college coaches at all levels reach out to me and are interested in where my game is headed.  I am a well-rounded player as I am the ultimate team player.  If I need to make the pass to get a better look, I will do it as I love the feel of getting assists, I will go get rebounds as I am usually the second highest rebounder in games despite my height.  If I need to take the shot, I do not hesitate and there is no limit in regard to my 3-point range.

My academic success is just as important as my athletics.  I realize that being in a small school has not given me a chance at AP classes, but I have excelled despite those circumstances.  I was able to take some classes the summer before my sophomore year and finished that year by taking more than the regular class load.  At the start of my junior year, I enrolled at Oklahoma State University and took 9 hours of concurrent classes on campus in Stillwater, and I followed that with another 9 hours in the spring. (I did receive my first and hopefully only "B" in my College Algebra with an 88 but I am proud of my overall college GPA at 3.83). After my classes I would drive back to my high school for athletics where I participated all year in basketball, softball and track. I have now finished all of my high school credits and upon high school graduation next year I plan on having 36 hours of college credit.   I believe this will show you my dedication to my academic future.

I will continue to improve on the floor and in the classroom as I will never settle for just being average. Please keep me in mind as you build your program during the next few years.  I would like to thank you for your time and consideration.
