Over the years, my academic and basketball experiences have given me the opportunity to continue to work towards the educational and athletic goals I have set for myself. By choosing to take a rigorous course load in the classroom and to play at a highly competitive level on the court, I have taken steps to push myself towards success by meeting the challenges these opportunities provide.
My junior year academics included 2 AP courses, 2 honors classes, and one GHP class in my core requirements. I also participated in National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, French Honor Society, and English Honor Society. I met my goal of being on the Principal’s List each marking period and plan to continue to explore my interest in the science field. In college, I plan to devote the time needed to continue to earn strong grades and excel in studying the field of medicine.
These past three AAU seasons, I have commuted to Philadelphia to play with the PA Lady Runnin’ Rebels organization. Playing with this high level team against elite competition has allowed me to show that I can successfully respond in pressure situations to the high expectations of my teammates and coaches. The Rebels know they can depend on me as a leader on and off the court. My coaches push me to improve my skills and elevate my game physically as well as mentally.
This will be my fifth year playing for the Parkland High School basketball program, at a large school of over 3,200 students. As an eighth grader, I was asked to play on the Freshman team, as a Freshman I was asked to play for the JV squad and sat varsity during the playoffs, and as a sophomore, I earned the opportunity to play full varsity. For my junior year, I was given the opportunity to start varsity for the whole season, and ended up leading my team in scoring. I rigorously attend practices, open gyms and optional workouts to continue to improve my game.
By playing in both the high school and AAU systems, I have developed the ability to meet the different expectations of these programs and become a more well-rounded and versatile player. While my main position is a shooting guard, I can play all five positions. My coaches have told me that they value the fact they can put me into any game situation at any position.
The hours of practice I have put into basketball over the years has given me the chance to meet and surpass goals I have set for myself, while also realizing the amount of hard work it takes to reach them. I have needed to be a skilled manager of my time to handle the workload of playing competitively and keeping my grades high in a school district that promotes academic excellence.
I am looking forward to a future at a college which will allow me the continued pursuit of my academic goals while affording me the opportunity to be an intricate part of the success of the women's basketball program.
