I have been playing basketball since I was 5 years old. It was in 2nd grade that I really fell in love with the game. I tried out for a 3rd grade AAU and I didn't make the team but the coach allowed me to be a practice player and maybe go to 1-2 tournaments. I took the opportunity and I practiced hard. I loved playing with the older girls. The experience helped fire me to push myself to get better and keep up with the older girls. I played up until I was in 5th grade when I move to a new AAU team in my age group and became the leader on that team. The experience helped me gain confidence in myself and my basketball skills.
I have strong ball handling skills, play strong, physical defense and I'm tenacious and unafraid to mix it up, offensively or defensively, against bigger players. I'm able to remain calm under pressure and I have a high basketball IQ. I push myself to get better each day.
I work all year long on my basketball skills with my trainer who has taken my game to the next level and helps me grow and improve each session. I also play AAU basketball for CPE, Varsity volleyball and I do Track & Field. Playing a variety of sports helps contribute to my athleticism.
I recently won Player of the Year for my HS Team and made 1st team All Stars in the area. It's a great feeling to get recognized and it fuels your hunger to continue to get better.
I classify myself as the perfect player for the right team. I work hard on and off the court. My grades are excellent. I take my school work as serious as I do my basketball game. I'm very coachable and have the mental toughness needed to succeed in life and in college playing the sport that requires so much of your time. I believe this alone makes me different than most athletes. From an early age I have learned that you need to work harder to get what you want. Whether on court or in life, you can't pass up opportunities because you don't want to work hard.
I hope for the opportunity to play collegiate basketball.
