Personal Statement

I've been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. It has always been a part of my life. When I was in sixth grade, I saw a senior earn her 1,000 point ball and I knew that's who I wanted to be. As an incoming freshman, my first goal was to achieve a letter in every season of every sport I'm in (basketball, soccer, and track). So far I've received all seven letters possible. Of course I'd love to score 1,000 points as well, but I'd take the experience of a state championship over just a ball any day.

As far as my academics go, I'm always trying to improve myself. In college, I really want to be able to say I am a 4.0 student. Being a student-athlete means a lot of late nights, but I love every second of it. I'm a little bit over half way through high school, and I managed to achieve first honors every semester so far. When I was a freshman, I came across some stages where I thought I would never be good enough to become a college player. Freshman year was my hardest year to be accepted. Two years later, here I am striving to be a DII basketball athlete.

Right now I'm more focused on my high school goals rather than my college goals; however, it has always been my dream to play in college. I think I'm a very versatile player as I played every position on the court. I made a transition from post to guard my freshman year. I worked really hard that summer to improve my ball handling skills. My left hand needed the most attention back then, and I think right now my left hand is just as good at dribbling, if not better, than my right hand. A lot of times coaches even confuse me of being a left-handed player.

That proved to me that a little bit of hard work can go a long way, and that scenario motivates me to this day to work on things I need to improve on. I've been through a lot of teams throughout my career, such as AAU, club teams, three-on-three teams, and most importantly my school team. I've met my very best friends through these teams these past few years, and lot of valuable life lessons as well. My team will always be my second family and one of my top priorities. My team always seems to have a sort of chemistry that no other team has that I've seen, and I think that's really something special.
