The moment you realize someone works harder than you, you've already lost. Hard work and dedication are more than words, they are a way of life. I don't hope to be successful, I work for it every day.
My name is Rebekah Malik and I am a senior in the class of 2020 from Austin, Texas. I currently take all dual-credit college classes at Austin Community College and LeTourneau University, and maintain a 4.0 GPA. This is my fourth season on a Varsity team, and I have had the honor of serving as team captain for the past two years. Over the course of my high school career, I have also played select basketball for the Texas Warriors Elite National Team, the Austin Wildcats, and the Texas Disciples, in addition to playing one season of varsity volleyball. I'm also an active volunteer and have a part-time job.
While I am extremely competitive, I value being a teammate. I have always considered my team to be my family. We win together, we lose together, we train and improve together, we encourage one another and we celebrate each other. I have been blessed to have many great coaching role models over the years. They not only have helped me to improve my skills, but they have helped me become a more effective leader. Although point guard is the position where I spend most of my time, I am comfortable at shooting guard, and am willing to post-up in order to take advantage of a mismatch. Putting in the work on all areas of my game is critical in order to get results.
Although I love the game of basketball, academics has been and will always be my first priority. My dedication to my studies spills over into how I play on the court; I pay attention and study each and every game. I have had to work hard for my grades, especially over the past two years of taking dual enrollment college classes. Taking these courses and holding down a part-time job while playing a varsity sport has definitely taught me the value of time management.
I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you more about your program and what I could bring to your team. I'm confident that my passion, dedication and skill would be a positive addition.
