Personal Statement
I’m a student athlete at Culpeper County High School, someone who takes pride in my ability to obtain a place on my school’s Honor roll while also keeping up with my vigorous extracurricular activities. As a 5’4” junior, I play sports year-round – field hockey in the fall, basketball in the winter and soccer in the spring. I adore the game of basketball the most, and currently play for my school’s varsity team where I have continuously been a starting point guard and one of the lead scorers for my team. I’m also a Marine Corps cadet who participates in drill competitions and a varsity squad leader in MJROTC.
My goal for college is to go somewhere that best suits me. I’m still discerning what I want to do as a profession, but I know I’m interested in communications and public relations. I’m also an adventurous person; therefore traveling out of state for college would not be an issue for me.
I believe goals should be specific, measurable, and attainable. For that reason, I yearn for criticism and ways that I can further improve in my game of basketball and in my other activities. I also see my stature as a metaphor for my success in basketball and in life: though I may appear small, I have a lot of fierceness, intensity, and determination. I feel that these traits will forever serve me well, on the court and off it.
“I think the best part about playing sports and being an athlete is to see how much I can push myself mentally and physically each day. Like my coach always says, ”Mind over Matter”
