Personal Statement
My name is Paige Winter, I’m in the graduating class of 2022. I started playing basketball in Kindergarten and have loved it ever since. My first competitive experience was in 4th grade when I was invited to join the 5th grade AAU team in our town. Following that, I played 4 years in a Vermont competitive league called Mini Metro. Mini Metro is organized by school district, so I played for Essex all four years. Our team also played 5 years of AAU. (5th through 9th grade). This was in addition to playing on the middle school team 6th through 8th grade and the High School JV team in 9th grade. In 8th grade I decided I wanted to play against better competition and on a team that would help me improve. That’s when I joined the Lone Wolf team. I believe playing for Lone Wolf has prepared me well to play at the college level. I primarily play point guard, but also play shooting guard when necessary for the team to be successful. One of my strong points is being able to read the court and knowing when to pass, shoot, or dribble. I am a good teammate and a strong leader, always pushing my team to do better while being encouraging and cheering them on.
In my Sophomore year, as a varsity basketball player I led my team in assists, deflections, steals, 2pt FG%, 3pt FG%, FG%, and tied for points per game.
Through my sophomore year I have a cumulative GPA of 3.84. I am taking all 200 level courses, as well as honors level English. Right now I’m leaning towards majoring in Mathematics, but am still undecided. I would like to find a college that will challenge me academically as well as athletically. I believe it is very important to get a quality education, while at the same time be able to contribute to the success of the team.
