Personal Statement

My name is Kayley Argenbright and I attend Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Virginia. Fishersville may be a small town, but I have big dreams living here. I have been playing basketball since I was 7 years old and have been very serious about it since picking up the sport. I started playing AAU (travel) ball when I was 10 years old and haven't stopped working at improving my game. Growing up, I have always been a leader, whether it be choosing the kickball teams as a young child or leading my team on the court now. People would describe me as a very kind, helpful, personable type of girl, but also a girl that is very athletic and serious when it comes to sports. When looking for a college or university that I would like to attend, size really isn't a priority for me. Distance is a factor because I would like to be close to my family. I feel that any college or university would be lucky to have a hard working, friendly girl like me representing their school. As far as statistics go, I am 5'11". I weigh about 150 pounds, and as far as speed goes, I can run baseline to baseline in about 4 seconds. Because I play volleyball, and I jump in track where I received medals in the high jump and the triple jump this year, I can almost touch the rim of the basketball goal, therefore I do very well at rebounding and stick backs. I have achieved many accomplishments in my life, but besides academic achievements, basketball achievements mean the most to me. As an 8th grader, our freshman team went undefeated which is a fantastic achievement in itself. I was voted to be a team captain on both the freshman team my 8th grade year, and the JV team my 9th grade year. I have not been a captain on the varsity team because my coach gives the privilege to the seniors to be team captains. But just because I don't have the title of team captain, doesn't mean I don't lead or assist the team. I am asked for assistance and guidance at practice and on the court from my teammates on a daily basis. I lead my team in rebounds, blocks, free throw percentage and was second in scoring. I was #1 in blocking, #2 in rebounding and #4 in scoring for my District this year. As a sophomore I was 2nd in the region for rebounding and 7th in overall scoring. I was also given the offensive player of the year award, 2nd team all district, and honorable mention all region. This year (2010/2011) I was selected to the 1st team All District, 2nd team All Region, 2nd team All City/County and I was named the offensive player of the year. I also had 10 Double/Doubles and 2 Triple Doubles. I am not really looking for any type of school in particular, so I would say I am very open to any type of school out there! As far as my major, my career path has always revolved around the medical field. At one point I was deciding between a physical therapist and a chiropractor. Now, I am deciding between a career in nursing or a pediatrician. Realistically, I would like to be signed on and play my freshman year, if possible. I understand that if I were to be signed on, I would have to work very hard to earn playing time. Playing college basketball is a dream of mine, and I pray it can become reality. In conclusion, if you are looking for a relatively tall guard/forward that can shoot, handle the ball, and attack the basket, I am the ball player that you are looking for. Kayley Argenbright
